Accidents and Emergencies

Accidents

In the event of your child having an accident, staff will administer First Aid and seek medical advice if injury requires medical services.  Parents are informed of any accidents that require first aid via Medical Tracker, which is emailed to main contact parent.

In the event of an emergency requiring an ambulance you will be informed immediately, the staff will accompany your child until you are present to take over their care.

Emergencies - Code Red or Code Purple

In addition to a Fire Emergency we have 2 other emergency procedures:

Code Red – Medical Emergency

In the event of a medical emergency where children may witness the medical situation or emergency response a CODE RED is triggered by the first responder (any adult) blowing their whistle with short blasts and calling out “Code Red”.  The adult calls the location to return to: The classroom or the school hall.

The hall is only used when the whole school has witnessed the event e.g. on the field.  If only a class or a few classes have witnessed it is a Code Red to the classroom.  Classes operate as normal, but all window blinds are closed to create privacy.

Code Purple: Shelter within building where no evacuation is possible because the danger is within the school grounds

In the event of an intruder with dangerous/life threatening intentions staff trigger a CODE PURPLE.  The is when the whistle is repeatedly blown on a long whistle throughout the school until every room/office/area is in lockdown.  Each member of staff passes on the alert until the whole school has heard it.  Upon hearing it the class door is locked, blinds drawn and the adults in the room move the children to a space in the classroom where they will be unseen from the door/window. The class remain there in silence until the “all clear” is given by Mrs Curtis or Mrs Rumsby.  The door must not be opened under any circumstance.

Below is the powerpoint that explains the procedures in detail.

Parents/carers will always be informed if we have had a Code Red or Code Purple incident.

Drills

Each term we proactice a fire drill and a code red/purple so that the children are ready for any emergency, parents will be informed after the practice drill so they are aware a prctice drill took place.
