Our Year 5 and 6 football team made a fantastic start to the season with a 5-0 victory at home against Highfield school. This was our first competitive school fixture in many months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and there was a great deal of excitement on the field from parents, teachers, and players alike.
Ash Grange started the game brightly and missed a succession of excellent chances to take the lead. The deadlock was finally broken just before half time, when Keane’s low cross found Izzi unmarked at the back post. Izzi calmly passed the ball into the net with her left foot to huge cheers from the home support. From the re-start, Keane quickly won the ball back for Ash Grange, dribbled skilfully past the Highfield defence and fired the ball home to make it 2-0 at half time.
Ash Grange extended their lead in the second half with 2 more goals from Keane, and a very well taken side-footed finish into the bottom corner from Ryan. Mr. Barnett was delighted with the composure, hard work, communications skills, and positive attitude demonstrated by every squad member at the game. The players voted Izzi as player of the match, while Mr. Barnett singled out Archie in Year 5 for his excellent positional play and organisation during the game.
A huge well done to all the players involved for making such a positive start to the season.
