End of Autumn Second Half Term – Happy Christmas

What a wonderful half-term we have had, the children have been learning so much with their new projects.  The assemblies shared, marvellous me messages, reports and parents evening provided you a thorough picture of all your child’s achievements.  It was wonderful to be able to welcome you into school through different events, for some of you it was your first time at these events.

Thank you for your support throughout this term as we battled Covid together.  For all that you have done, wearing masks, keeping distanced and following the measures, thank you.  Yes, we have had some cases, but everyone's prompt and considerate actions have kept these to the minimum.

I am so glad we were able to enjoy the Christmas events, albeit it with restricted numbers, the Lunch, Panto, Decorating the tree assembly, Singalongs, Nativities and Carol Concert have bought joy to all. Thank you to all the children (and staff) for all your hard work.  The children are bringing home their school tree handmade decorations today for you to treasure at home.  For new parents/carers, each year they make a different one so over the years you get a lovely collection.

Thank you to everyone for supporting our PTA Christmas raffle, which was drawn on Tuesday, congratulations to the winners. A huge thank you to Sarah, Louise and Clair for gathering everything and making such beautiful hampers. We raised approximately £1270 for new playground markings.

Thank you for your contributions for the Save the Children Charity, together we raised £469.40. We also raised £696.49 for Children in Need this year. We also collected for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, amount to be advised. Thank you for supporting these events and showing the children that we can all make a difference to those in need in our world.

The choir have made us all so proud this Christmas, as they have sung at two local care homes, Abbeywood and Japonica Court; the residents were so cheered and grateful to the children as they bought old songs to life and shared new ones.  The Carol Concert was lovely as they and Year 6 shared the events from the Christmas story.  Sadly, we're not able to have this at St Peter's this year due to Covid restrictions. But the choir and Year 6 rose to the occasion as they always do.

The children would like to continue with choir so this will become a lunchtime club in the new year.

This is Mrs Soane's last week at Ash Grange as she has found a post closer to home.  We thank her for hard work and care of the children she has worked with over the years and wish her every happiness.

Over this half term Mrs Lopes has joined the Nursery team and Mrs Bateman has joined the SEN team as an LSA - welcome to you both.

After Christmas Mrs Jones returns from maternity leave and will be joining Mrs Price to teach Year 5G.

Mrs Brazil returns to staff as part of the cleaning team.

Mrs Neaves adds to her role by becoming an LSA and joining the SEN team.

Dr Lynsey Mutton has been re-elected as a parent governor this term and continues in her role as Chair or Governors.

Hampers and Vouchers

I am so grateful to Farnham Food Bank who supplied many hampers, treats and presents to needy families at Ash Grange for Christmas.

Parents/Carers who are entitled to Free School Meals have received government food vouchers for the Christmas holiday period.

Commitment of faith gifts

As you know we like a reason to celebrate children’s achievements in and out of school and we have added some new things to this.  Historically when the children were undertaking Holy Communion, we presented them with a bible on behalf of school. Different faiths have different commitment times and events, and we want to honour these:

  • When our Muslim children have read through the whole Koran, they receive a prayer mat and beads – 3 children received them this term.
  • When our Christian children have read their children’s bible and make a commitment of faith, they receive an older bible – 1 child received theirs this term

We are exploring how to mark other faith’s commitments and would welcome parents/carers ideas.

On behalf of all the staff we wish you a wonderful Christmas break, there may even be snow between Christmas and New Year, keep safe, and we will see you all on:

Wednesday 5th January 2022.  (Staff have an INSET training day on 4.1.22)
