End of Term - Week commencing 22nd July 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

Here we are again, so soon at the end of another school year.  What a wonderful year it has been with so many fantastic experiences for the children of Ash Grange.  Their end of year reports were a pleasure to read, everyone has worked so hard and achieved so much.  If you need an additional paper copy please come to the office and they will be able to help you with that.

Our dear Year 6 have celebrated the end of their time at Ash Grange with their outstanding results from the SATS test and their wonderful show, The Pirates of the Curry Bean and all who were lucky enough to see it laughed so much, enjoying their great humour, acting and singing. Well done one and all, and our great Year 6 Teaching Team of Mrs Chantler and Mrs Jones. Next Wednesday at 9am (lasting approximately 1 hour) will be their Leaving Assembly, for the children and Year 6 parents and carers to enjoy.

We have lots of lovely things to still look forward to next week, including discos (Tuesday), picnic lunch, activity day and class party on Wednesday.  End of term is at normal home time 3.15/3.20pm on Wednesday.

There will be a chance to meet the staff in your child’s class and find out more about the new curriculum and experiences your child will be having next year when you attend the presentations in each class in September.  There will be 2 presentations on Monday 9th September at 3.20pm or 7pm (both will have crèche for children in the hall) so please select the time that works for you.

Today we said Thank you to the Year 6 who have had special responsibilities and they handed the baton to the Year 5 children who will have those roles from September.  We also took the chance to say thank you to the PTA for all they have organised and run for the children and families this year, we so appreciate all their hard work; and thank you to all the parents who helped and supported at different events.

On Tuesday 23rd July the Children’s Centre will be saying goodbye to the team of Mrs Henry and Miss Large, as shared in previous emails the government have decided to close many Children's Centres in Surrey. It will be a lovely opportunity to have some fun and treats so if you have ever been involved with the service then come along between 1-3pm.  We are so grateful to the team who have provided such support for our community.  In September the new Family Centres will be opened, there will be an outreach service here in the mornings at Ash Grange and we will find out more about all they will offer in September.  We will also be adding some community services that we at Ash Grange will run.  The first of which will be a twice a week (Monday and Wednesday) Stay and Play session for under 5’s, this will be between 1.30-2.30pm and run out of the school hall. This will open to anyone in the community.

In readiness for September there are a few things to mention:

  • School clubs will be back to a Tuesday after school, with the exception of Running on Mondays, Elite KS1 and KS2 swimming on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.  In response to the 4 parents who shared how much their children had missed the clubs and feedback from the children, there will be clubs for Year 1 to 6.  Children will choose their club at school in the second week of term and clubs will begin on the week commencing 23rd September.  There will be a strict policy of attendance at school clubs as staff give up a lot of time to run these for your children.  Two absences without medical evidence will result in your child losing their place at the club and a loss of place on any school club in the following term.

  • In addition, Premiere Sports will be running a Gymnastic Club on a Friday morning before school and a Rugby Club on a Friday afterschool; these are paid for by parents directly to Premiere Sports.  These clubs will begin from Friday 13th September.

  • Swimming lessons start from the 11th September, Key Stage 1 is on Wednesdays, KS2 on Thursdays.

  • Remember new to Year 3 parents, home time is at 3.20pm from September.

  • New to Year 6 parents can give permission for your children to walk home without you, please come to the office to complete the form.

Thank you to you all for your support this year, I appreciate your partnership in making Ash Grange better and better and I know we can all be so proud of all we have achieved together.  I wish you all a wonderful summer.

Kind regards,

Mrs Curtis
