Attendees:
Apologies
Claire raised that a parent had asked to find out more about what the children were learning each week.
Answer: Our website has a section for each class with a ‘Gallery of Learning’ and ‘What my child will be learning this year’. Our Marvellous Me app informs parents all homework, half termly topic work and awards.
Mrs Curtis also runs Maths, Literacy and Spelling workshops for parents to help support children with their learning. Work books are available for each year group, if families would like a set they are free and available at the office.
For those children already using the workbooks it is important to realise these are for the year and children may not understand how to do things as yet.
2. Saturday Activities
Claire asked if we could run activities on a Saturday for Dads plus child.
Answer: We have done so in the past and it would be lovely to do so in the future. Mrs Curtis will be organising various fun classes after Christmas including cooking. We will research what is out there and bring back to the group at the next meeting.
3. Photographs
Lots of reps raised issues with the recent photographs which we have already raised with the company. We are working hard to find a company that is better in product and cost next year, do let your rep know if you see any wonderful examples from friends and families.
4. Spellings
It was mentioned some of the spelling sheets are inconsistent being in cursive or comic sans. There has been confusion over capital letters. Mrs Curtis will feedback to the teachers to ensure consistency throughout. Some of our children are currently trialing Reading Eggs and Spelladrome. Once we have found a great product we will roll this out so children can access at home. We are also exploring the possibility of loaning ipads for those children who do not have access to a computer.
5. Water bottles
Natasha raised the need for water bottles to be sent home with children once a week to be cleaned.
Answer: It is expected that these will come home for a good clean on Friday, staff will be reminded to remind children.
6. Tuckshop
Mrs Curtis was asked if the children could wear gloves during the handling of sweets. As we do not promote plastic gloves Mrs Curtis assured the group the children wash their hands thoroughly prior to handling, she will investigate multi-use gloves.
It was raised that parents did not see a larger cup being used, they are the same style but different heights. This half-term's tuck sale has been moved to 29th November, we plan to add sugar free sweets for those wanting a reduced sugar option.
7. Community Stay & Play
Community Stay & Play runs Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Monday’s session finishes at 3pm and Wednesday 2.45pm. It was questioned if the Monday session finished slightly earlier than advertised. Mrs Curtis has checked with staff and no it runs till just before 3pm.
8. Food Hampers & Eagle Radio
Mrs Curtis explained that anyone can apply for a food and present hamper if they would like to. She encouraged all Parent Council representatives to promote this with families.
9. Events
It is a very busy time of year Mrs Curtis shared upcoming events and parent workshops.
Please check the website and week ahead for a complete list of events, trips and activities.
10. Parent Lunches
Mrs Curtis was asked if we are having parent lunches this term?
Answer: There are no plans to resume parent lunches until such times Mrs Curtis is satisfied with portion size consistency. This will be resolved shortly ready for the Spring Term. Dates to be announced.
