Potters Gate vs. Ash Grange Football Match Report – Thursday 4th November

Our Year 5 and 6 football team maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive 1-1 draw away at Potters Gate school. Ash Grange had the better chances in the first half. Keane again demonstrated his excellent dribbling skills to create several opportunities to score, however his shots were blocked by the excellent Potters Gate goalkeeper. Ryan also showed great technique to volley a shot narrowly over the crossbar. Mr. Barnett’s player of the match Archie H made some superb saves during the first half to keep the score at 0-0.

Both teams struggled to pass the ball fluently on a muddy and bumpy pitch, and the players had to battle hard to win possession and play the ball forwards. Stanley led by example with some crunching tackles in the centre of midfield, which allowed Ash Grange to dominate possession in the second half. Keane gave Ash Grange the lead with a trademark solo run and finish, cutting in from the right-hand side to shoot powerfully into the bottom corner with his left foot. Potters Gate responded well to going behind and equalised shortly after. Archie made a fantastic diving save to his right, but the Potters Gate striker was on hand to tap in the rebound to make the score 1-1.

Mr. Barnett was again delighted with the team’s performance. Jack made a hugely impressive debut in defence and was ably supported by the ever-dependable Archie. Teo, Jimmy and Riley also made their first appearance for the team, and all performed with great energy, skill, and enthusiasm.
