Week Ahead 3rd February 2020

This week is Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Week. The children will be participating in various activities to promote the importance of children and young people’s mental health. This year’s theme is Finding Your Brave.

Bravery comes in all shapes and sizes and is different for everyone. Bravery can be about sharing worries and asking for help, trying something new or pushing yourself outside your comfort zone. “Finding your Brave” can build your confidence, self-esteem and make you feel good about yourself.  For more information and free resources visit www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk

We will also be taking part in the NSPCC’s Number Day on Friday where the children find out about the work of this wonderful charity.  We will be donating 50% of our tuck sale profits to the charity, if you would like to add to this donation then please drop it off at office.

Thank you to everyone who completed the parent questionnaire, the results are below.  It is really interesting to see people’s views, there is much to celebrate and be proud of as well as areas for action.

I hope that any parent who believes we are not doing so well in an area, has raised this matter with: Parent Council, Teacher, SENCo, Deputy or me.    Remember Tuesday am is my drop in day, or catch me on the playground or in my office. If you do not raise it, we cannot address it.  I recognise that I cannot please all of the people all of the time but would like to think we are an open, transparent and honest school who do all we can to improve provision.

Also if you complete a “don’t know”, I encourage you to find out.  In particular, those who are not sure if their child has SEN (48), you would know if they did or did not have SEN, as they have an Individual Provision Plan which is discussed at parents’ meetings and is part of their termly report.

If you do not know about your child’s learning through Class Teacher talks, MarvellousMe alerts, Certificates, Half-termly project information, Classroom exhibitions, website sharing and homework information; I would be interested to know what is missing.

We will next be exploring the children’s views during PSHE in the next two weeks, as well as the staff’s views too.

Timestable Rock Stars

How proud are we, Ash Grange is the top of the league of local schools, we are beating them all; well done Ash Grange pupils (see league image below).

Readiwriter

There have been a number of glitches with the set up end of the system, the company are looking into this and addressing matters.  Until we are confident of it working we will send spellings home on MarvellousMe as well.

It is so frustrating that a new system is not delivering but we are confident it will be addressed very soon

Active Points

Points are being awarded this week for trackers, any child who achieves 5,000 earns 100 points for their team, 10,000 = 300 points and there is an extra 100 points for every additional 1,000 steps.  Get walking!

Eco Points

Next week is Week 2 - Recycling Week – Around school, children will gain points for putting recycling into the correct container in the recycling centre.  In the classroom, points are awarded for accurate use of recycling, repurposing and compost.  Also points are given if the class recycling paper has been used on both sides.

Calling any Buddhists

Do we have any Buddhist parents/carers? Year 6 are studying this religion and it would be wonderful for them to find out more about the religion from a practising Buddhist in our own community.  Please let me know if you are able to help.

Guinea Pigs

Our Guinea Pigs have moved to Year 1 for the week. Every week they will move up a year so each class will have an opportunity to look after and pet them.

Did you know you can take our Guinea Pigs, Willow and Nugget home for the weekend? We supply all the equipment they need during their stay. If you would like to book a slot, please speak to the office for available dates.

Can You Help? Do you have any unwanted newspapers? If so, please can we have them for our Guinea Pig cage. All donations can be dropped off at the office, thank you.

Kind regards,

Mrs Curtis
