Dear Parents/Carers,
We have enjoyed a lovely start to the Autumn second half of the term with a week of “wows” in the classes, as new projects were launched. My favourite moment was watching Year 5 crawling around, as if in a spaceship! Details of the new project are on the website and homework ideas are listed; incredibly homework is already coming in!
There is a new honour board by the reading jungle which lists all the superstars from Autumn 1:
Congratulations to all the children who have made the honour board.
The NSPCC charity came into school this week to talk to the children about Speaking Up to Stay Safe. Children enjoyed assemblies and Year 5 and 6 had workshops to understand the issues more thoroughly. All children were made aware of the support they can receive with worries.
Next week is Anti-bullying Week and we have lots of activities planned that show how we work together to stop bullying. Throughout the week each class will take part in a variety of activities to raise awareness of anti-bullying, each class will be making displays of lovely paper hands to show what we can do together to stop bullying happening at Ash Grange School and around the world
We are hosting a local running with other schools in the area, if you would like your child to take part please let the office know. Parents are welcome to watch.
On Thursday 14th November there is a running event at Ash Grange Primary School. The event starts at 3.30pm and will be over by 4pm. You will run one lap of the field. There is a medal for the best boy and girl in each year band.
Next Friday (15th November) is Children in Need day - everyone will wear their pyjamas or onesies to school and we would ask for a donation to the BBC National Charity.
We have a number of Pudsey wristbands and badges available to purchase for £1 each from the school office before and after school next week.
Booking for the above will be online from 9am on Monday at http://www.parents-booking.co.uk/ashgrange
The school will be closed to pupils on the day, however there will be a crèche in the hall for school aged children (sorry we are unable to accommodate younger siblings) for the duration of your meeting.
As anyone with a family knows, Christmas can be a pressured time. The local foodbank in Farnham would like to help by taking some of the pressure off at what can be a very expensive time of year. If you would like to receive a hamper (which contains a variety of meals for the whole family as well as a selection of seasonal items), and anyone can, please complete and return the attached form (copies available in the school office) to the school by Friday 15th November. Hampers will need to be collected from the Farnham branch, transport support can be offered.
In addition, the school can access the Eagle Radio Toy Appeal to provide age appropriate gifts for your children. If you would like to be considered for toys, please speak directly to Mrs Curtis by Friday 15th November.
In response to pupil, parent and staff feedback We are exploring ways to make spelling and reading homework fun and easy to manage at home and school. We are about to trial Reading Eggs and Spellodrome with different children and classes, this will be a 2 week trial and then we’ll assess suitability. If you would like to be part of the trial please talk to Mrs Rumsby.
The next workshop is on Maths and is on Thursday 14th November, please come along if you want to know how to help your child with Maths at home.
Premier Sports have changed their Friday afterschool club to Football for this half term. Further details and to register are available at https://family.premier-education.com/courses/venue/ash-grange-primary-school/id/18008
