Week Beginning 16th September 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

This week we ran some drop in sessions for Marvellous Me to help families get set up in the new year and discovered that lots of families did not realise that they need to remove last year’s record, you know it is last year’s if your child has (Ash Grange Primary School) after their name.

Step 1 – delete last year’s child, even if they are still at the school

Step 2 – Add a child: put in the Code and your child’s name, if you have lost your code just ask we can locate them easily.

Step 3 – All their badges and news will be shared.  The homework will be attached each week.

Remember you can share this password with up to 6 devices so wider family members can hear all about your children’s great news. Each week there will be a badge your child can earn and a learning activity that will be shared by the teacher so you know more about what your child has learnt.

Drop in any day at drop in or home time to have support in getting started and set up.

Congratulations to Dougie in Year 5 whose balloon (environmentally friendly material) travelled all the way to Glastonbury from the Rotary Kids Day Out in Aldershot last July. Dougie was presented his prize in Assembly by the local Rotary Club President Mr Benworthy.  It also earned the school a £15 prize which we will put towards gardening tools that the Head Gardeners requested.

Clubs will now start next week!
As the children have made their choices we are ready to run clubs from Monday 16th September.  Your child’s chosen club came home today. If your schedule is such that your child cannot attend please let the office know so that they do not lose their place for clubs next term and someone else can take the opportunity this term.   Mr Cooper has selected the elite swimmers for KS2 and they will be told on Monday, their first session is on Wednesday and runs 8am - 8.45am.  KS1 children will be selected next week.

In addition, Premier Sports are running a Gymnastic Club on a Friday morning before school and a Rugby Club on a Friday afterschool; these are paid for by parents directly to Premier Sports.

Please remember that there will be a strict policy of attendance at school clubs as staff give up a lot of time to run these for your children.  Two absences without medical evidence will result in your child losing their place at the club and a loss of place on any school club in the following term.

Community Stay & Play

As you know the Children’s Centres in Surrey have changed since August and the new Family Places are not able to offer the range of activities that were once offered so we have decided to fill a gap and provide something special to our community.

Starting on Monday 16th September, there will be 2 community Stay and Play sessions running at Ash Grange Primary School. These are suitable for children from birth to 5 years of age.  The weekly term time sessions will be held in the school hall on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons between 1.30pm and 3pm. Entry is through the hall door entrance (down the school drive). No need to book – simply turn up, stay and play with your child.

Funzone Half Session

A parent has suggested a great idea with Funzone, a half session after school for those families that just need a little extra childcare.  This will run from afterschool till 4.30pm, there will be no tea during this time and cost £4.  We will still offer the full session till 6pm with a tea served at 4.30pm.  We will trial this to half term and see the level of interest and usage.  Booking for Funzone is now available online up to 24 hours in advance through Scopay. For details on how to book visit

Remember families who are entitled to Free School Meals/Military Families are also entitled to 2 Breakfast sessions or 1 afterschool session per week.  Please ask if you want to know more.

This year a couple of staff member have dropped a day a week to aid their family life and work life balance so Mrs Rumsby and Mrs Chantler do not work on Fridays.  Last week’s staff list shared who is where now.

PTA/Parent Council

I am looking forward to the first meeting of the PTA and Parent Council on 24th September, everyone is welcome to come along, you are not going to be signed up to anything you don’t want to do.   Could all current members of the Parent Council let me know if they are happy to be the representatives this year.

Kind regards,

Mrs Curtis
