Week beginning 18.1.21

We are all definitely getting better at the world of online learning. I have been so impressed with how hard the children are working and engaging with the opportunities.  Thank you to everyone for your support and patience when things go well and not so well – we all love technology until it goes wrong.

It has been lovely to see children chatting with one another and keeping in contact, these connections make the children feel much happier.  I have set up private channels for each child on their Teams page for them to chat with their Classteacher, Mrs Rumsby or me.  The staff are beginning to set up smaller group activities in addition to the class lessons, this may for children who are finding work hard, need support, extra help or some emotional support.  The day of activities provides the children with a structure like that of a “normal” school day.

Early Years all of your lovely photos of activities coming from the daily songs and stories have been enjoyed by all the Early Years team, remember to post through ParentZone. If you have any questions email the room leader directly.

For Year 1-6, Assemblies, Me Time and Music lessons have been uploaded onto Teams. So as not to add more scheduled slots to the day they are pre-recorded so that the children can access them at a convenient time over each week.

The staff are working hard to provide a healthy balance of live, recorded and independent activities with time and space to relax in-between. The children are certainly gaining some important learning behaviours of managing schedules and tasks (with great help from you at home). If you have ideas of how we can improve this then please email them to the teacher or to me through the school office.

We are tracking attendance as we are legally required to do and in the first week this the highest level of each class during the week:

Nursery 1 is 75%

Nursery 2 is 70%

Reception is 70%

Year 1 is 93%

Year 2 is 83%

Year 3 is 86%

Year 4M is 83%

Year 4P is 80%

Year 5 is 86%

Year 6 is 90%

Congratulations to Year 1.

I know there were lots of technical issues that week, resources and juggling all the times, there is such a rise over the classes this week, I’ll publish the final results on next week’s newsletter.

We have distributed 57 chrome books from Year 6 to Year 3.  We are awaiting the opening of the new order form from the government in the next 2 days to be able to order more for Year 2 and 1.  I know that the staff have been tremendous supporting families to get online.  We will have some kindle devices available for Early Years children in the next week, we will let you know when they are available.

If anyone is having problems setting up the Chromebooks or home devices, please contact the office we will get you sorted, even if you need to pop in to do so.  We do not want any child missing out on their valuable education and will do all we can to help support you.  Parents you have been wonderful supporting, guiding and encouraging your children this week, we could not do this without you.

Staffing News

  • Our two teachers recovering from Covid are doing better and better each day and are definitely on the mend.
  • Mrs Jones officially began her maternity leave on Friday 15th January, we look forward to meeting baby Jones in the near future.
  • Mrs Wade has joined the Nursery 2 team as Classteacher and we welcome her to the Ash Grange family.

Free School Meals (this is for benefit related support not the universal meal that all key stage 1 children can have when in school)

All those entitled have received their vouchers for the first 2-week period.

Universal Reception, Year 1 and Year 3 Key worker children who are in school during lockdown will receive vouchers for the lunches they would be having on those days only (as the catering company are unable to provide). The vouchers will be sent at the end of every fortnight.

All of the above is in line with new government guidelines.

Kindest regards and keep well

Mrs Curtis
