Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you so much for all your support with Children in Need on Friday, we have raised a whopping £427 so far. We enjoyed a great week of teaching and learning, as part of the Anti-Bullying Week the children learnt lots about how to spot bullying, what it is and is not and how to get help.
Surrey Young Carers also came to share with the children what it means to be a young carer. Many children did not realise there is support for them as carers, groups, activities and funding.
Young carers are children or young people under the age of 18 who provide regular and on-going care and emotional support to a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or misuses substances.
Young carers look after family members or friends, living in the same house or elsewhere. They may be providing a variety of help, ranging from practical assistance with cooking or cleaning to personal care such as helping with washing, dressing and lifting, and emotional and supervisory support - amongst other things.
One in twelve children and teenagers are looking after someone - but many are too embarrassed or afraid to come forward to ask for help, or, having been a carer for so long, they haven't recognised what they do.
If you feel your child is a young carer and would like to get them extra support, please let the Classteacher or me know and we will refer them to get support. Here is the website link for more information: http://www.surrey-youngcarers.org.uk/who-young-carer/
Some children have been awarded EHCPs and so we have some new staff members:
Ms Perry in Year 3, Mrs Lawson in Year 1.
Mrs O’Doherty has joined Year 4 as the HLTA to replace Mrs Paine.
We welcome them all.
This year we are not doing the Shoebox appeal as we will be doing events over the year for the class charities. Each class has it’s own charity, the details are at: https://www.ash-grange.surrey.sch.uk/school-council-1/
If you want to complete a Shoebox the link for the nearby drop off points are found at:
Well done to everyone who took part in the running event yesterday. Thank you to our sports ambassadors Lacey-Jo, Sophie, Rebecca, William D, Alicia, Kelsey-Lynn and Verity who supported all of the younger children during the event.
The next interschool event will be swimming, and will take place in late spring.
I have been delighted to receive lots of applications for the hampers, it is wonderful that families are taking the chance to receive these, they have extended the deadline till next Wednesday so please complete a form if you would like to receive one of these.
As anyone with a family knows, Christmas can be a pressured time. The local Foodbank in Farnham would like to help by taking some of the pressure off at what can be a very expensive time of year. If you would like to receive a hamper (which contains a variety of meals for the whole family as well as a selection of seasonal items), and anyone can, please complete and return the attached form to the school by Wednesday 20th November. Hampers will need to be collected from the Farnham branch, transport support can be offered.
We are unable to accept any further requests for Eagle Radio Toys as the deadline has now passed.
Please find attached the minutes of last week’s meeting, thank you to Council Reps who attended.
Booking for the above is online at http://www.parents-booking.co.uk/ashgrange
The school will be closed to pupils on the day, however there will be a crèche in the hall for school aged children (sorry we are unable to accommodate younger siblings) for the duration of your meeting.
Please do come to the school office if you need help booking.
Premier Sports have changed their Friday afterschool club to Football for this half term. Further details and to register are available at https://family.premier-education.com/courses/venue/ash-grange-primary-school/id/18008
Kind regards,
Mrs Curtis
