It feels like school is settling into a sense of the new normal at last and we can start doing lots of lovely things. Can I please ask parents to make sure children in Reception to Year 6 are on the playgrounds to join their class as they go in at 8.45am, if they are later they feel left behind and it does not start their day well.
Last week was our first proper week of homework and there were lots of children who did not complete it and had to do in breaks on Friday. Please help your child to complete their homework, if you are not sure what they have to do, ask the teacher or pop on the website. If you have lost any passwords to log on, just let us know.
Year 1 have swapped from Mathletics to Maths Seeds and had stickers to tell you all about it.
Reading books are coming home now, each class has a set in their room for swapping amongst their classmates and these are only changed weekly with the school collection, after a preparation process.
Funzone (After Nursery and School and Before Nursery and School Wrap Around Care)
Is open for school children and we have Teeny Funzone available for our 2-4 year olds. A reminder to parents who receive Free School Meals that children can have 1 long evening or 2 morning/2 short evening places at Funzone each week). If you are interested just ask at the office. You can book online.
It is time to think about how we do this in a different way. Your voice and contributions to school life are vital. For those who were members last year, would you like to stand this year? If you would like to stand please let me know by Monday 21.9.20. I will then advertise any spaces, we will hold the meeting on 29.9.2020, one week later than planned.
We will need to have online Teams Meetings (don’t worry I’ll sort that out for anyone new to it, just like Zoom).
With Covid preventing elections and the same level of meetings I have asked our wonderful committee: Chair - Sarah Maude, Secretary – Clair Waterman, Treasurer – Louise Hobbs; to stand for a further year which they have kindly agreed to do. We had already decided to not do Fayres this year and have raffles instead but we need to change how we will get things for each raffle. Normally we would have a mufti and then families kindly send in goodies for the raffle, we can not do that this year as we want to avoid handling items from lots of locations. So we are asking for families to donate £2 for an event and £2.50 for Secret Pressie events.
There will be lots going on over the year:
Harvest this half term (with all monies supporting local food banks);
Children in Need (with all monies supporting the national charity)
For our fundraising we are looking at 2 projects:
1) Resources for playtime, big things like table tennis tables and playhouses for younger children
2) An alternative gate entrance and alleyway inside the perimeter of the school to provide a better journey to school for children and relieve pressure on other exit points.
To raise funds these are the events:
Christmas Raffle, Secret Santa – next half term.
Comic Relief, Easter raffle, Mother’s Day - in the spring
Summer Raffle, Fathers Day – in the summer term.
Sadly we can not have discos until we can mix bubbles together.
To help families plan ahead and spread costs we have set up Scopay for all the events and any further donations that you want to make, so at any time before the event you can go on and donate to the event.
If you want to know more ask the PTA team.
We have made the tough decision to rehouse our furry friends upon vets advice re Covid, whilst our measures were all good due to the possibilities of lockdowns and illness it is better they are in one safe place. We have found a lovely home for them and know they will be lovingly looked after. Our Vets have been reallocated important roles as Gardeners and Librarians.
The nasal flu vaccination letter for YR-6 has been sent home by email. Please follow the instructions in the attachment to register. We are unable to register this through the school office.
Children are starting to earn points for their teams for different things – this week is manners week and they can also earn eco points for reusable containers.
Please be aware that some children have changed house colour due to leavers and starters and wanting to even out the house teams. If your child is unsure please email the teacher or school office.
Election details were sent out this week, please complete the nomination form if you would like to apply.
If you would like to know more then please book a meeting with me or talk to our parent Governors: Mark Reynolds or Lynsey Mutton, or our outgoing parent governors.
