Week beginning 4th November 2019

What a wonderful half term we have enjoyed and so many achievements for the children, be it first time in the swimming pool, passing certificates, representing the school, taking on special roles, so much to be thankful for.  Today’s assembly saw so many children achieve new reading levels and Timetable Certificates.

With the children really enjoying Timetable Rockstars today we had a roll call for the Rock Heroes, those that know there timestables within a second of the question – stunning!  There are 14 children in Year 4-6 who have reached this level and will be on the honour board.  Each were awarded a badge that they can wear with pride:

Year 6 – Sam, Jayden W, Charlie H, Archie.

Year 5 – Benjamin, Tim, Tashif, Alfie, Ollie, Harvey

Year 4 – Keane, Emmanuel, Alfie, Sabeeha

The fastest person in each class has a star pin to wear as well: Keane (0.74), Benjamin (0.54) and Sam (0.6). Year 3 and 2 are about to get their access to this so let the battles begin!

There were also badges for the Super Spellers, those children who have scored full marks in every spelling test this half term:

Y6 – Ellie May, Charlie W, Matt, Leo, Lacey, Jayden W and Charlie H

Year 5 – Benjamin and Darya

Year 4 – Keane

Year 3 – Aurora and Freya

Year 2 – Halle, Mitaya

Year 1 – None yet.

This half-term 24 children have been awarded Fountain Pens, for fluent joined script and so many have earned orange ink for presentation.

Reading and Spelling Homework

In response to pupil, parent and staff feedback we are exploring ways to make spelling and reading homework fun and easy to manage at home and school.  We are about to trial Reading Eggs and Spellodrome with different children and classes, this will be a 2 week trial and then we’ll assess suitability.  If you would like to be part of the trial please talk to Mrs Rumsby.

Parent/Carer Workshops

It was lovely to see parents coming to the Writing Workshop this week, we explore how to support your child with Writing, Spelling and Grammar.  The next workshop is Maths on 14.11.19, please come along if you want to know how to help your child with Maths at home.

There is a parenting “1 2 3 Magic” course, on Tuesdays 3rd, 10th and 17th at Wood Street Infant School from 9.15 - 11.15am.  If you would like to attend please let me know.  There is no crèche facility with the workshops.

This week was the last swimming lesson of this term, they will begin again after February half-term next year.  The pool will now be closed for the winter so there will be no Funzone swimming or Elite Swimming Club until it reopens.

Now that the children are not swimming they will be having an extra PE slot with the Classteacher so please ensure your child brings their PE Kit in on a Monday to have it available all week (in line with our handbook).

The following invited clubs have now finished;

  • Football Club training afterschool on a Monday (Tuesday’s club continues).
  • Elite Swimmers KS1
  • Elite Swimmer KS2

Premier Sports have changed their Friday afterschool club to Football for the next half term. Further details and to register are available at

Nasal Flu Vaccination

If you would like your child to have the Nasal Flu Vaccination on 13th November you must complete the e-consent form for your child’s flu vaccination at: (the school’s unique code/URN number is SR125116 which you will need to enter on to the flu consent form).

The deadline for forms is WEDNESDAY 06/11/19.

Your child will not receive the vaccination unless the e-form is completed.

Funzone till 4.30pm

We have trialled a Funzone till 4.30pm option this half term and it has been well received and used well so this will be a permanent feature.  So there are 2 options for Funzone 3.15/3.20-4.30pm which costs £4 and has no meal or 3.15/3.20-6pm which costs £11 and has a meal.

The new Funzone menu is available at
