Week beginning 7.12.20

What a wonderful Christmas tree week we have had at school, I hope you saw our pics on Facebook.  Our 18ft tree was decorated beautifully tree by all the children from Nursery to Year 6 with their own made decoration.  It is a wonderful assembly (which we did in the two key stage bubbles) in which the children sang songs, heard the retelling of “T’was the night before Christmas”, shared wishes for the world and explored the meaning of Christmas, represented by the satsuma they collected as they left the hall.

Now this week we have the following to look forward to:

  • Panto in class (oh no it’s not, oh yes it is) – we have purchased a licence to watch an online panto over the next week.
  • Christmas Jumper Day – this is for the Save the Children Charity, children can come to school in a Christmas jumper and families have the chance to given money to the charity through Scopay
  • Christmas Lunch Day – Nursery on Thursday and the rest of the school on Friday for those who have booked.
  • Mrs Haygarth is in the editing stage of our Christmas carol and readings recording that will be sent home in the final week (or sooner). We will also be sending this to the Care Homes we normally visit at this time of year to bring them some Christmas cheer.

On Monday 7th Dec, you will be receiving your child’s progress report for the Autumn Term. This is a summary of their achievement and progress over this term which we have extended from Maths and English to all areas of the National curriculum (Years 1-6) or EYRS (Nursery 1, 2 and Reception Class) foundation stage. It also includes a comment on their behaviour, attendance % (this is the number at the end of the report) and punctuality and the impact these have had on their learning progress.

This will be used as a basis for your discussion with the teacher on Wednesday 9th December when the Nursery and School is closed to facilitate this day of meetings with families.  Remember to log in to your Parents Booking account at the time you chose for the meeting and the meeting will automatically begin at that time.  This is a really important meeting as it gives time for you and your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s achievements and their next step. If your child has SEN you will receive your child’s IPP separately.  If you have not yet booked a meeting, please make sure you do so quickly to get a suitable time for your appointment.

Please book in a slot through, watch the video to find out more and read the attached guide.

Christmas Raffle

Make sure all your sold and unsold tickets are returned to school by Thursday 10th December as we are having the draw on Tuesday 15th December. There are so many wonderful hamper prizes some with money too!  A huge thank you to the PTA team for gathering all the items and making up such wonderful hampers.

If you want any more raffle tickets please ask at the office.

A Reminder

On the last day of term each class will be having their class party in the afternoon. We explored at Parent Council how to do this differently with Covid meaning we are not able to ask parents to bring in food therefore we will be purchasing on your behalf at a cost of 50p per child, please pay through Scopay.

Extra Learning Opportunity (not class homework)

The Mini Winter Reading Challenge began on Tuesday 1 December 2020.  Children can rate and review their books, collect rewards, and take part in Winter Mini Challenge activities through their website The Mini Challenge will end online on Friday 15 January 2021.

To support good punctuality, we have made some changes to our Attendance Policy.

Good punctuality at school is essential for children to achieve their full educational potential.  It is also vital for children to form good habits for later life.

To help make these improvements, we ask parents/carers to support us in maintaining good punctuality when dropping off and collecting their children.

From Monday 30.11.2020 any children arriving late for school (after 8.55am) Parent/carers will automatically receive a letter via email highlighting:

  • The number of minutes late
  • A reminder of when the school day begins.

If a child is late of five occasions in a half term you will be invited to attend a meeting with the Headteacher.

For children who are late being collected after school you will receive an automatic letter via email highlighting:

  • The number of minutes late
  • A reminder of when the school day ends.

If there is no improvement following our letter any future lateness longer than 10 minutes will result in your child being sent to Funzone, our after school care, for which you will be charged for a half session which costs £4.00 per child.

A full copy of our Attendance Policy is available via the school website.

Lockdown Number 2 Reminder

Thank-you all so much for your ongoing support of the social distancing safety measures in place on the school site, which are working so well.   We are now in Tier 2 High Alert so our current practice will continue until guidance changes.

  • Only one adult per family to drop off/collect children. Where possible make this the same person each day and do not bring other children from your family unless there is no-one else to look after that child.
  • Please do not send older siblings to collect children unless you have no alternative.
  • When waiting to drop off or collect your child keep your distance from anyone from a different family.
