Week beginning 7.9.2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

How wonderful it is to be able to say Welcome Back, it has been the best week in a long time.  After all the preparations by the staff team, to see the children back in school, happy, thrilled to see their friends, adjusting so well to the changes in rooms and schedules, brings us all great delight.  Thank you to every one of you for your support and cooperation with the changes to arrival times, entrances, altered times into classes and protecting one another with face coverings.

We welcome our new Reception Class to school, they begin today and are full time from tomorrow.  Nursery 1 (old Preschool) and Nursery 2 (old Nursery Class) begin classes this week also, welcome to all of you and your families.

Getting all the measures and steps right in these early weeks will ensure we have done everything reasonable to help protect the children and adults in our school community.    With each passing week and in response to a lack of infections we can begin to ease restrictions:

From Monday 7.9.2020:

  • Year 6 who have given written permission can come to and from school without adult supervision.  The children must not play in the playground but can wait with their class peers.  If the children fail to comply with this rule the privilege will be revoked.  The school does not accept responsibility for the children until the children enter the school building.

  • Year 5 parents who have children in younger classes may leave their children on the front playground and make their way to the side playground when they come onto the site.  Parents must be on site until the children enter the school building.

The children must not play in the playground but can wait with their class peers.  If the children fail to comply with this rule the privilege will be revoked.  The school does not accept responsibility for the children until the children enter the school building.

  • To reduce the waiting around time, all school children from Reception to Year 6 will be collected from the playground by the Classteacher at 8.45am.

  • Nursery 1 and 2 are dropped off at 9am as normal.

  • Face Coverings will be required for all adults on site for a further 2 weeks whist we await government figures around spikes in rates of infection since school return.  This will be reviewed in 2 weeks’ time.  It is so important that all adults at all times keep to 1 metre plus distance as government guidelines make clear.

Lunchtimes

The children are really enjoying our new lunchtime arrangements, that means the children do not have to queue for food and get at least 30 minutes play time.

Wider  Curriculum Activities

PE has begun so please make sure PE kits come into school on Monday and stay until Friday.

Swimming lessons begin this week:

Tuesdays for Years 1, 4M, 4P, 5 and 6

Thursdays for Years 2 and 3

Plus Reception (not this week as first week at school, they start swimming next Thursday 17.9.2020)

Year 4

We are so please that we are able to run a special programme for our Year 4 children.  Rob Mayne who ran the Prince William Award 2 years ago who has set up his own “Together We Achieve” award. This is a skills programme to help Year 4 children learn about themselves, how to work with others and how to make the world a better place.

Parents/carers will receive consent forms to complete.

Year 5 LAMDA

The performing arts special programme will begin in October, once the Year 6 children have completed their exam preparations.

Our weekly newsletter will be uploaded directly to the school website and parts will be shared through Facebook in the coming week.

Kindest regards

Mrs Marie Curtis
