Parent/Carer Handbook

This is the information section so you are aware of expectations and guidelines.  If you feel there is any valuable information missing, please inform the office so improvements can be made in the future. If you want to know more about any aspect of the calendar or school life please come and discuss it with the school staff, Deputy or Headteacher.

Admissions

If you would like to apply for a place at the Preschool or Nursery, contact the school office or complete our online application.

Assemblies

There is a daily act of collective worship, which is taught from a wholly Christian perspective and develops children’s understanding of other faiths and beliefs. 

 

Parents are all welcome to attend the weekly class assembly, see the calendar for dates of each class’ assembly.  Please be seated by 9am.  You are welcome to bring younger siblings who will be able to enjoy and let the performing children be heard.

 

Parents have the right to dis-apply their child from all assemblies, if you want to know more about this then book a meeting with Mrs Curtis who will explain procedures for this. 

Attendance

Attendance every day is important to make the most of the teaching and learning opportunities that Ash Grange provides. 

  • Preschool and Nursery starts at 9am or 12 noon, no one is permitted 15 minutes after opening time. 
  • School starts at 8.45am and children must be in school by 9.55am.  Children are dropped off at their class entrance and independently enter the classroom.
  • If your child is ill then please inform the school by 9.15am, either by phone, on the website or in person. If your child has to leave school early for an important reason, please inform the class teacher and fill in an absence request form in advance and collect your child from the school office.  No child can leave the school premises during school hours unless accompanied by a parent or an authorised adult.
  • Any absence must be applied for in writing beforehand, using an exceptional absence request form that is in the drawer unit in the entrance to the office. It is then passed to the Headteacher for consideration and a response is given through pupil post, leave will only be granted in exceptional circumstances, parents do not have an automatic right to absence.
  • Where possible please make medical appointments outside of school hours, where this is not possible bring the appointment card, letter or text along to the office with the absence request form. The policy details all practice and penalties.  Please consult the school term dates before planning your family holidays. 

Any parent taking their child out of school without authorisation may be subject to a local authority penalty fine. See the Attendance Policy for further details.

Any difficulties with attendance should be discussed as soon as possible with the Headteacher, Mrs Taylor our Home School Link Worker or the County Educational Welfare Officer. 

Certificates

Children work towards certificates (in reading, writing, maths, computing, times tables and swimming), which track progress and show next steps. If a child achieves a certificate, it is given in a Friday assembly and a copy is sent home for parents to know what their child has achieved and how you can help them at home to achieve the next one.  Every time a children achieves a certificate they receive a prize and add a subject icon to their star point in the entrance to the school so keep an eye on how well your child is doing over the school year.

 

Prizes include:

A book for every reading level they accomplish - 21 books levels.

A writing resource if they achieve Writing Gold level by the end of the year.

Times table pencils, rulers, watches and maths sets for the different superhero maths certificates.

Badges for Times table Rockstars who achieve Rock Hero level

Badges for termly super spellers who get all the spellings right each week

Weekly certificate to the class with the highest percentage of attendance 

Monthly bands for 100% attendance

 

Charity of the Year

Each class has an elected local charity that they learn about and fundraise for at different times in the school year.  The School Council pages for more details.

Child Protection

Safeguarding children is paramount and is the basis for all policy and practice. The school staff are trained to support children’s development and follow the government guidelines on child protection. All staff, visitors and regular volunteers are subject to child protection checks with the police and local authority. 

 

Our Designated Child Protection Liaison Officers (DCPLOs) are:

  • Child Protection Liaison Officer – Mrs Marie Curtis (Headteacher)
  • Deputy Child Protection Liaison Officer – Mrs Ali Rumsby

 

“If you are concerned about a child’s welfare, please record your concern, and any observations or conversation heard, and report to the CPLO as soon as possible the same day. Do not conduct your own investigation.  If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that s/he is unsuitable to work with children) then you should report this to the CPLO (Headteacher) in confidence, who will manage the matter according to policy guidelines. If it concerns the Headteacher report it to the Chair of Governors, who will then manage the matter according to policy guidelines. If anyone suspects a person in the community of potential or actual harm to children, they must inform the Local Education Authority Children’s services.” 

 

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.  We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be endanger the child’s welfare.

 

If you are visiting the class, please sign in at the office. You will be given information on guidelines and practice and asked to wear a visitor’s badge. If you are assisting on a trip please complete a next of kin emergency form.

Christmas Events

December bring the celebration of Christmas for all to enjoy.  Children are permitted to wear Christmas socks and tights, earrings and hair accessories (not large ones that will distract learning).

 

Decorating the Christmas Tree Assembly – this is the first event to welcome the Christmas season. All of the children from the Children Centre to Year 6 hang decorations on the main tree in the hall, whilst Christmas songs, stories and poems are presented. Parents are welcome to see the finished tree after school.  

 

Christmas Lunch – a special lunch for the whole school, the children sit in class groups in the specially decorated hall and enjoy a typical traditional Christmas Day menu. The office team send out order forms beforehand so that every child can have a special Christmas meal if they would like to.

 

Preschool/Nursery Classes Sing Along - Parents are invited to come and join a sing along of nursery rhymes and Christmas songs in the classroom.  There is one Sing Along per class and children (and their parents) who do not normally attend at that time are welcome to come in earlier on the day to enjoy the festivities.

 

Nativity Performances

Reception to Year 2 perform the full nativity story for parents to watch in the school hall, one in a morning and one in an afternoon to be able to accommodate all the visitors.

 

Carols by Candlelight – a special service when the festival of Christmas is celebrated at St Peter’s Church. The children sing a selection of carols and traditional songs.  All parents are encouraged and welcome to attend.

 

Christmas Jumper Day - We all wear Christmas jumpers of clothes to school on this day.

 

In the final week of the term the children are permitted to wear Christmas jumpers and have painted nails.

Class Reps/Council

Each class has a parent representative who sits on the Parent Council. Their role is to raise class issues and work with the Council to find solutions, gather ideas and bring about overall school improvement.  The Class Rep is the link between the parents of the class and will share news of events and galvanise support for events and trips. 

Mrs Curtis directly invites parents on to the Council and chairs each half-termly meeting.

Class Exhibition

Each half term there is an opportunity to view the children's work in their classroom either before or after school. Please see the calendar for dates.

Clubs

School clubs mainly run on a Tuesday after school for Years 1 to 6.  Children choose their club at school and the calendar tells parents when they start and finish each term.  Morning clubs run from 8am, Afterschool clubs run until 4.15pm.

Staff are very generous to provide additional clubs and families must adhere to the policy of attendance: Two absences without medical evidence will result in your child losing their place at the club and a loss of place on any school club in the following term.

Dummies

At Ash Grange Preschool it is important for children to settle well and be happy whilst in our care.

  • During the initial home visit, we will discuss the use of a dummy at Preschool, as part of a child’s settling process to support a smooth transition between home and school.
  • Once the child has settled, their dummy will be used to comfort when upset if other distractions are unsuccessful.
  • If the child sleeps as part of their daily Preschool routine, then a dummy may be given in line with home practice.
  • When not being used a child’s dummy will be kept in their own dummy box out of child’s reach and labelled with their photograph and name.
  • After use and if dropped a dummy will be cleaned and stored/given back to the child.
It is important for parents to understand that the constant use of dummies can have a huge negative effect on children’s speech and language development.

Easter Assembly

Year 4 prepare a retelling of the Christian Easter story for the school. The event takes place at Holy Angels Church, all parents are welcome to attend.

Emergencies

First aid equipment is kept throughout the school and all staff are trained in First Aid Procedures. It is crucial that the office team is informed of up to date home and/or work telephone numbers, or alternative methods for contacting you should the occasion arise (confidentiality with respect to ex-directory numbers will always be maintained). If your child becomes sick or unwell we do our best to contact you immediately. In the event of head bump parents are always called to alert them to possible internal injury or shock and to discuss whether there is a need for the child to come home or have additional medical attention. In the event of an accident we will contact the emergency services and next of kin.

If an injury has required medical treatment, beyond a wash and check, then parents are informed by email through our Medical Tracker system.

Biting

Biting is not tolerated at Ash Grange. If a biting incident takes place, staff have a duty to inform both the parents/ carers of the child who has been bitten along with the parent of the child doing the biting.

 

Practice

Biting can be caused by exploration and teething in young children. In older children it can be to get a reaction or to get attention. Children imitating others can also lead to biting.  Children try to gain independence, making choices, and needing to control a situation can part of this. Biting can be used as a way to control others. It can be a quick way to make someone move out of the way.  Sometimes children are unable to find the words to express how they feel so they resort to biting.

 

When a biting incident occurs staff will find out:

Who – Who was involved?

What – What happened before or after?

When – When did the incident happen?

Where – Where did the incident happen?

For the child who has been bitten:

Staff will: comfort the child and administer first aid if needed

Talk to the child about what happened and report on the Medical Tracker system and speak to the parent/carer.

For the child who has done the biting:

Staff will: separate the children and explain that biting hurts and is not acceptable 

Encourage the child to apologise for hurting someone

Speak to the parent/carer about what happened explaining the situation and how it was dealt with

Reinforce the appropriate behaviour explaining to the child how to respond to another child instead of biting.

Feedback

Fayres

Christmas and Summer Fayres – These are fundraising events organised by the PTA, with stalls run by parents, children and staff. All proceeds go towards the Children’s Project. These are also social events, so come along, support and enjoy. 

Fundraising

Children’s Project – Playground Equipment. This year we made a considerable investment in playground equipment which will take a few years to complete the payment for so all events will be raising money towards this project.

Funzone

The school breakfast and after school paid provision, has a range of fun activities and a meal, which the children help to prepare. All children are welcome to attend from Reception to Year 6. Funzone runs out of the and has access to the Music Room and Computer suite, utilising all the grounds and facilities. Parents book sessions through the office or website, payment is required at the time of booking. Further details on the Funzone page.

Governors

A group of elected people from the community ensure the school is carrying out its legal duties. A meeting of the full Governing Body takes place each term which is open to any parents to observe. See the calendar for the dates of meetings and see the Governors page for a list of current governors.

Harvest Festival

A celebration to express our care and share with the community.  Year 3 prepare and perform a special assembly and invite their parents to a tea party which they have prepared and cooked. 

Head Lice (Nits)

As with many other social situations where children play closely together, it is likely in school for head lice to transfer from child to child.  Remember, head lice actually prefer clean hair, so the possibility of infection is absolutely no reflection on a family’s standard of hygiene.  If your child is seen to have head lice the school will expect them to be collected and the infection treated before returning to school. If you require any advice or support please ask the office.

Homework

We believe that children who are in a challenging and stimulating school curriculum learn a great deal throughout the day.  We believe the time at home is valuable for children to spend with family and relax, therefore homework is kept to a minimal.

If parents need any support or guidance with homework please talk to the Teacher, Senior Leaders, Deputy or Headteacher who will be happy to guide and support.  There are also Parent Workshops run each autumn term to explore ways that parents can support their child with learning at home.  See the calendar or ask the admin team for details of the next opportunity.

Hometime

Preschool and Nursery children leave through their play area; parents wait by their respective classes. 

 

Reception, Year 1 and 2 children leave their class at 3.15pm.

 

Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to 6 Children) leave their class at 3.20pm, as this creates a small gap for parents to collect from different locations and to reduce the congestion at exit points. 

 

It is very important that parents let their child and Classteacher know if there are any changes to the arrangements for going home.  Any unfamiliar collector needs to be introduced to the class teams, if this is not possible then the adult collecting will need to state the safe word that the parents have informed to the class teams of prior to the collection.

 

Children in Year 6 can walk home independently if written permission is given by parents.  For health and safety reasons all younger children must be collected by an adult. Children are collected at the class exit doors and will remain with the teacher until the parent collects them.

Induction

Preschool/Nursery Class:

Children have a few days of visiting with a parent, then short visits alone before embarking on full sessions alone; this is adjusted to the individual child’s needs.

 

For new to Reception Class children:

June Evening Meeting - an information event to ensure parents have all the information that is needed for their children starting school in September.
July Induction visits - A morning or afternoon visit to the class for the children and an induction workshop with the Head for new parents. The children are in groups of 6 and visit once over the induction weeks.

Staggered Start in September - Children and families attend a familiarisation visit to the classroom the day before starting. The children are staggered in over a few days, in the order of new to setting children first as they need time to adapt to the new environment.

 

For in year transfers to school classes:

Families meet with Mrs Curtis to discuss needs and requirements.  A school tour is provided by the admin team.  Children are inducted by the Classteacher with a programme of support and adjustment.

INSET Days

There are five INSET days allocated by the government per year for staff training and school usage. There is no school/childcare on an INSET day.  See the Term Dates page for full details.

Key Stages

Early Years Foundation Stage = Preschool, Nursery and Reception Class

Key Stage 1 (KS1) = Year 1 and 2

Key Stage 2 (KS2) = Year 3 to 6

Learning

We want every child to reach their potential, developing skills, interests and passions. The foundation of learning is the ability to read, write and communicate well; this is the bedrock of all learning.  We want children to leave primary school with the skills and knowledge in place so that they can be lifelong learners, able to choose the career they want and be full active and responsible citizens.

Preschool, Nursery and Reception children are taught from the Early Years Foundation Stage, Years 1-6 are taught from the National Curriculum. The curriculum is taught in projects, which contain all the national curriculum subjects, to enable children to link subjects together and apply their learning to different situations. Further information about projects can be found on each class page.

All current school curriculum policies are available for parents to read online, if a paper copy is required please contact the admin team. We use a variety of teaching methods to enable children to become independent creative learners. Children are taught by teachers and learning assistants as a whole class, in groups and individually. 

 

THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE

This is a specialised curriculum for 0-5 year olds.  Providing learning opportunities that will fully develop the individual child: intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and morally. The basis of the teaching is through child centred learning at children’s needs and challenge levels.  Nursery and Reception Year children are taught the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Children will begin the Programmes of Study for the National Curriculum in the term after their fifth birthday or earlier if they have achieved the Foundation Stage levels. The Prime Areas of Learning and Development are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; and Physical Development. The Specific Areas of Learning and Development are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design. Each child has a learning journey that is recorded and shared with parents over the year; parents are invited to record in it any milestones that their children make at home.

 

KEY STAGE 1 AND 2

Building upon the Foundation Stage, children then work according to the programmes of study specified in the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum subjects are: 

Art and Design; Computing; Design Technology; English; Foreign Language (French); Geography; History; Mathematics; Music; PE; Personal, Social and Health Education; Religious Education and Science.

Lockers

Each child has a locker for their belongings.  Lunchboxes, kits, bags, coats, etc… are stored in them at the owner’s risk.

Lunchtime (School Dinners)

A light meal is provided as part of the breakfast/lunch/tea sessions in Funzone

For children attending school, a hot meal choice is available; the fee is collected in advance on a weekly, half-termly or termly basis.  Parents can pay online or in person at the school office.

 

The school hires a caterer to provide a hot meal, with salad and bread, a dessert and drink. 

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes are provided with a free school meal from the government. Provision is made for children who bring packed lunches to school.

 

Preschool and Nursery children who attend all day - parents  provide a packed lunch following the guidelines below.

 

A packed lunch needs to be:

  • A balanced healthy meal
  • No chocolate bars or sweets
  • No nut products are allowed to keep safe those with a nut allergy

Children staying for packed lunch should have a labelled container for their balanced meal and drink. Uneaten food is returned home so parents can monitor what is being eaten. Children need to place their lunch containers in their lockers, which is taken to the hall at the start of lunchtime and returned to class at the end of it.  

 

In line with our desire to improve our impact on the world families are asked to use reusable containers for food and drink.

 

For those parents who wish to take their child home for lunch, collection is at 12.15 and return to school is from 1pm, so that the child is in time for afternoon lessons. 

MarvellousMe

This is a celebration app that we use to share your child’s marvellous achievements in the form of badges with you and family members (6 links available per family).  Families are provided with a unique password which they set up once at https://parent.marvellousme.com/

Medicines

Staff are not permitted to administer medication to a child except in life-threatening circumstances.

If a child is so unwell that medication is required, then they must be kept at home until fit to return.

In exceptional circumstances parents can arrange for medicines to be taken under supervision by agreement of the Headteacher. Parents must provide written permission and instructions and deliver the medication in dosage containers. The child must be able to take their own medication in the school office under the supervision of a member of staff. If a child has a medical condition that may require emergency medication, parents must provide this medication which will be kept in the class medication bag with the class at all times. Medication is always taken on a trip. 

Parents are responsible for ensuring the medicine is in date at all times.

Mobile Phones

Children are not permitted to have a mobile phone at school.  If it is vital to their safety walking to or from school in Year 6, it must be brought to the office (turned off) at the start of the school day where it is kept until the end of the day (at the owner’s risk). Parents, volunteers/visitors must turn off their phone during their visit to the school.

Mufti Day

A non-uniform day when children can wear clothes of the theme or come in school uniform; this is often a way to raise money for different charities or to promote our Fayres.

Notices and Newsletters

Each week parents receive the Week Ahead email which contains important information about school events. Please ensure the office have a contact email address.

There are digital signage and noticeboards in the playground and at the office entrance to share any key messages and as a general information service.

Open Morning/Afternoon

This is a time when the school is open to visitors, prospective families and our current parents to see all the wonderful opportunities and experiences the children have at Ash Grange.  Y6 run refreshments for visitors to enjoy. 

Parent/Teacher Progress Review Meetings (Parents Evening)

  1. There is a 2-year-old check meeting with Preschool team members at the appropriate time.
  2. At the start of each school year the new Classteacher meets with the class parents/cares as a whole, at 2 separate opportunities, to share learning, opportunities and expectations for the year ahead.  Please make the time to come to the events, which have crèche facilities.
  3. First half term of each term – an optional parent meeting is available for you to explore your child’s progress and any needs.  Parents are to approach the class teacher to arrange a mutually convenient time.
  4. Second half of each term – a formal meeting to explore your child’s progress over the term, to discuss next steps and receive the termly progress report; a parent is expected to attend a meeting. Please sign up for a meeting via the online system, you are notified when this opens via the Week Ahead.  To enable productive meetings, the school is closed on the full day of progress meetings with a crèche facility in the hall for parents to drop children and siblings off ahead of the meetings.  There are also later meetings in the early evening, but there are no crèche facilities for these meetings. 

If at any point you have a concern then please raise them with the Classteacher or Senior Staff member as soon as possible, do not wait until Parents’ Evening to raise the concern, the sooner it is sorted the better.  If you want to book a meeting there is an online booking request.

 

ParentZone (I-Connect)

This is a communication app for Early Years Families, to share targets, progress and achievements in their Learning Journey.  Parents can use this to share achievements at home.  Families are provided with a unique password which they set up once at https://www.parentzone.me/

Pencil Cases

Children in Key Stage 2 can bring in a pencil case for use at school.  Tippex is not allowed.  Writing pens must be blue or black ink, please avoid biros as they have a tendency to leak.  School awarded fountain pens are not permitted to go home so they are ready for the next lesson.

Performances

Preschool and Nursery – Sing along in class to celebrate Christmas, for parents to attend.

Reception to Year 2 Nativity.  All parents are welcome to attend

Year 3 – Harvest Tea Party, exclusively for Y3 parents

Year 4 – Easter Assembly.  All parents are welcome to attend Holy Angels church for the performance.

Year 5 – Concert in the summer term, all parents are welcome to attend.

Year 6 – End of Year Show.   All parents are welcome to attend.

Photographs

The children are photographed as individuals and with school aged siblings in the Autumn term and in a whole class group in the Summer Term.   Parents are shown a proof copy from which they decide if they want to buy their own copy.

Children are photographed for learning and promotion purposes, parents choose to sign this agreement for this each year.

Policies

All school policies are agreed by the staff and governors and are available for parents to read online, if a paper copy is required please contact the admin team.

Parent/Teacher Association (PTA)

The PTA is a parent and teacher association at Ash Grange and to which all parents are automatic members. They get together as a group to organise fundraising and social events. See the Facebook group and school calendar for dates and the PTA page more details.

Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSE)

The children have a weekly PSHE lesson with the Classteacher to cover the National Curriculum, in additional to Social, Emotional, Mental and Physical Well-being lessons.  These provide the children with the opportunities to understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to themselves, others and the wider community. 

 

Key aspects of the Sex Education Curriculum are taught in age appropriate ways to different years:

  • YR – Pants are Private (Pantosaurus)
  • Y1 - Stranger danger and personal safety

 

Y2-5 classes in line with the Sex Education Policy have growing up talks led by the Classteacher.

  • Y2 My body – what does it look like? who should touch it?
    • Aim 1: To understand that your own body is special and unique, e.g. fingerprints, eye colour, hair colour, etc…  
    • Aim 2: To know who can/should touch your body and how, e.g. doctor for health checks, family for washing, etc.
  • Y3 Stranger danger – how to be safe 
    • Aim 1: To identify strangers e.g. unknown to a family, school.
    • Aim 2: To explore how to be safe from strangers, e.g. not walking alone, going off with strangers, getting help
  • Y4 Saying no to someone – standing up not alone
    • Aim 1: To explore what should children say no to, e.g. dangerous activities for self and others.
    • Aim 2: To know how to get help if someone is doing something you do not like, e.g. who to tell and how
  • Y5 Labels – stereotypes and differences 
    • Aim 1: To explore positive labels, e.g. praise and congratulations labels. 
    • Aim 2: To explore bad, labels and their impact, e.g. racist, homophobic, etc…
  • Y6 Puberty Talk – Body changes 
    • Aim: 1. To understand the body changes for boys and girls e.g. periods and hormones
    • Aim 2: To prepare for the changes and possible impacts of the changes. e.g. personal hygiene activities.

 

The Year 6 talk is given by the Headteacher, with the Classteacher present, to the boys and girls in separate groups to prepare them for the changes that their bodies will go through in the forthcoming years. A letter is sent home beforehand to inform parents about the forthcoming lessons and if parents have any questions regarding the content they can discuss those with Mrs Curtis; all parents have the right to withdraw their child from the talk. 

Reports

In the Autumn and Spring terms there is a brief report (Yr-6)/learning journey update (Preschool and Nursery) for each child so parents are aware of their child’s progress, effort and achievement as compared with peers nationally.  In the Summer Term there is a more detailed report exploring progress and achievements over the whole year and in comparison to their peers nationally. Year 1 phonics results, Year 2 and 6 SATS are published with the summer report.

Residential

Whilst children are in Year 3 or 4 they have an overnight stay event here at Ash Grange, where they enjoy activities, a special meal and lots of fun; and a little sleep!

Whilst children are in Year 5 or 6 they experience 3 days away to an outdoor centre, which provides curriculum experiences in many areas including Geography, Science and outdoor PE activities, with lots of fun. The children have one overnight stay and one residential opportunity in Key Stage 2. 

The next overnight stay is May 2021 (Year 3 and 4), the next Residential is May 2020 (Year 5 and 6).

School Development Plan (SDP) 2019-20

 

Every year we strive to improve the provision of Ash Grange to have the greatest impact we can on the pupils, parents, staff and community.  Each year the school stakeholders review progress and attainment to identify actions to improve the provision for all children, our current targets are:

 

  1. To expand the teaching and learning repertoire to equip children with a wider range of methods from which to select the most efficient.

  2. To expand the spoken and written vocabulary of all children to increase the effectiveness of communication.

Governors

Governors monitor all aspects of the SDP as part of meetings, and on-going monitoring throughout the year.

Standard Assessment Tests - SATS

Government assessments to identify children’s progress at the end of each key stage in Year 2 and Year 6, which is compared to all children nationally.

Year 2 the SATs are used as part of the Teacher’s assessment of the child. 

Year 6 this is a formal invigilated process, involving tests in Reading, Writing and Maths with Teacher Assessments in Writing.

All children are prepared in age appropriate ways for these key assessments.

There are SATs talks (dates on the calendar) for parents to find out about the purpose and procedures prior to these tests.

All classes have assessments at the end of the autumn term, mid-year in February and end of the year in July to assess progress and achievements. 

In addition, Year 1 have a national phonics assessment in June. 

School day timings

Funzone

  • Before school: 7.45 – 8.45am
  • After school: 3.15/3.20-6.00pm

 

School Day:

  • Pre-School/Nursery 9am-12noon/12 noon-3pm 
  • Reception to Year 2: 8.45am -3.15pm
  • Year 3 to 6: 8.45am -3.20pm

Breaktimes

  • 10.30-10.45am – All classes
  • (YR have breaktime during their morning activities in the autumn term)
  • 12.15-1.15pm Lunch and playtime

There is no set afternoon play, breaks are taken as classes require.

Swimming

The swimming pool will be open for as much of the year as possible. The school provides a qualified swimming instructor. The children in Reception to Year 6 have weekly sessions from Spring half term to Autumn half term.   Nursery children have water confidence lessons from summer half term (end of May).  There is no cost to parents for this wonderful opportunity.

All children need a hat, costume (no bikinis or tankinis), trunks, towel and may choose to bring goggles as well). We also recommend crocs or flip flops for walking to the pool.

Toileting

Children are encouraged to use the toilet facilities at breaktimes. 

Preschool children who are not yet toilet trained are expected to come to Preschoolwith nappies for changes as required. 

Nursery children are expected to be toilet trained and need extra clothes in case of accidents.  Until a child is toilet trained and not having daily accidents they cannot attend full time.

Trips and visits

Visitors and visits are organised each half term to enrich the curriculum. Each class has a range of trips in the local area and further afield.  Voluntary contributions are asked of all families without which the trips cannot take place.

Uniform

The school has a strict uniform policy; it is a parents’ responsibility to ensure that their child wears the correct uniform; the school does not have items to borrow. Full details are on the Uniform page.

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly

A special celebration assembly to say goodbye to the current Year 6. There is seating provided for all parents of Year 6 children to attend.
