Message from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful few weeks we have had, enjoying the sunny weather and engaging in our exciting learning projects. It has been lovely to see so many children bringing in their optional project homework. A reminder that classroom exhibitions will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday.

This week, our Year 6 children completed their SATs (government assessments in grammar, spelling, reading and writing), and how brilliantly the children rose to the challenge. We are incredibly proud of every one of them. They have certainly earned a well-deserved rest, along with the Year 6 staff team.

The sponsored bounce will take place next Wednesday, 20th May. This fundraising event will help us purchase more books—particularly non-fiction—for the school library. Children brought sponsor forms home earlier this week; these should be returned to school on Wednesday morning, ready for the event. If children are unable to secure sponsors, they are still very welcome to take part with a £3 donation, payable via Scopay or the school office.

Last month, I shared news of a Parent Governor vacancy, which has now been filled by Mrs Heather Spryakis, a Year 3 parent. Thank you to Heather for standing unopposed, we warmly welcome her to the team.

We also have Sports Days taking place next week, weather permitting:

  • Reception: Thursday afternoon, 2.00–3.00pm
  • Years 1–6: Friday afternoon, 1.00–3.15pm

There will be toddler and parent races during the Friday event. Children will receive an ice lolly afterwards, and extras will be available for families to purchase for 50p each.  Families are welcome to come and enjoy this event.

Our new school video has been added to the website. It is a lovely showcase of who we are and all that we do. The Year 6 children do a fantastic job of sharing their roles, and it is wonderful to see children throughout the nursery classes and school smiling throughout—enjoy!  https://www.ash-grange.surrey.sch.uk/

We have now finalised our INSET days and Open Days for the next school year to give you plenty of advance notice; details are below.

Kind regards,

Mrs Curtis

Meet our Governors

Vice-Chair: Ms Holly Cannell

This is now my third school year as a parent governor and my first as Vice Chair. I currently have 3 children attending Ash Grange from nursery 2 to Year 6!  I really enjoy being a part of the wonderful Ash Grange community and playing a small part in helping all Ash Grange children reach their full potential.

My background is working in the Children's Activity Sector, teaching French classes to children in schools, nurseries and in the community. I therefore really enjoy the monitoring visits at Ash Grange where governors see the wonderful staff and children in action during their learning.

Each governor sits on 2 of the 3 committees which meet every term.

The committees are :

  • Finance and Staffing Committee

  • Learning and Progress Committee

  • Pastoral and Well-being Committee

We also come together once a term as a Full Governing Body which you may have noticed in the school calendar. You can find out more about the governing body on the school website.

School Holidays and INSET days

Academic Year 2026 to 2027

Autumn term 2026

From September 2026, community and voluntary controlled schools will have a two-week autumn half term.

Five days will be taken from the summer holiday in July 2027.
The school year will still have 195 days, including 5 INSET days.

Additional UK Bank Holiday (Closed)

3 May 2027 – May bank holiday

INSET Days for next academic year 2026 to 2027  when school is closed to pupils for staff training are:

  • Tuesday 1st September 2026
  • Monday 4th January 2027

  • Monday 12th April 2027
  • Friday 2nd July 2027

  • Wednesday 28th July 2027

What are inset days?

An inset day (an abbreviation of in-service training day), is one of a series of five days in most schools in the United Kingdom on which teaching sessions are not run, and the pupils do not attend school. The staff are required to attend (on the day or in sessions twilighted accordingly) for training or to complete administrative tasks. Teachers can catch up with work and also have the opportunity to train for any new technology or new ways of doing things within the school.

Open Days

For families looking to join Ash Grange in September 2027, we are pleased to offer four Open Day events for parents and carers. These visits provide the opportunity to see the school in action, enjoy a pupil-led tour, and attend a presentation from the Headteacher.

To book a place, please complete the online booking form here.

Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to offer tours outside these scheduled dates.

Recycling at Ash Grange

We are collecting hard to recycle items to help save our planet!

At Ash Grange, we collect milk bottle lids, biscuit wrappers, cheese wrappers, used stamps, old coins and bras. The bras will be sent to girls and women in Africa.

If you have any of these items and want to recycle them, there is a collection point in the Eco Shop at the entrance of the school. You can leave these in the appropriate drawer in the Eco shop, and we will recycle them!

Additionally, you can bring clothing for recycling to the office any time!

Thank you for helping us make the world greener and support communities!

Textile Recycling

A reminder that the collection bank is available all year round. You can donate clothing (including branded uniform), pairs of shoes, accessories, soft toys, and sheets at any time. Items can be dropped at the office or, for larger amounts, you can arrange access to drive down and unload.

All donations are reused or recycled, helping reduce textile waste while supporting our school.

What can be donated:

  • Clothing (including branded uniform)
  • Pairs of shoes
  • Accessories (hats, scarves, gloves, handbags, belts, etc.)
  • sheets
  • Soft toys

Donations can be placed in any plastic bag.
