Message from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

We had a wonderful start to the half term, with so much going on.

This week, we were delighted to host our induction evening for families joining us in Reception in September, as well as those continuing their educational journey at Ash Grange. It was a fantastic event, and our Year 6 children made it especially memorable – performing a song, showcasing a catwalk, and impressing everyone with their confidence and enthusiasm.

Thank you also to those who joined us for the Key Stage 1 parent lunch today – it was lovely to see so many of you there. We look forward to welcoming Key Stage 2 parents for their lunch on 26th June.

We would like to make you aware of a number of changes taking place over the coming months as we continue to prepare for the growth of the school to a two-form entry.  Over the summer holidays there are a number of adjustments to the use of space within the school.

In the first phase, there are some changes to classes:

  • From September, the current Year 2 classes will move into the Green Room (located beneath the current Year 3 classrooms).

  • Year 3 classes will move across the corridor to the opposite side.

I will let you know as each phase takes place.

Sort Out

We are having an almighty sort out and so there will be many items available to a good home. We will email the details as the items become available.

Swimming Pool Update
We are now in the final phases of the swimming pool project. Current work involves checking water pressure, units, and equipment performance. This will be followed by the completion of the pool lining and flooring. We anticipate that this process will take approximately three weeks, meaning we hope to have some swimming sessions in place for a short period in July. We will, of course, keep you updated if anything changes.

There is a great deal happening across the school at the moment. Our Year 6 pupils are busy preparing for their production, while many classes are working hard on their writing projects.

A special mention this week goes to:

  • Year 1 pupils, who have done exceptionally well in their government phonics assessments – we are very proud of them.

  • Year 4 pupils, who have completed the government multiplication checks with great effort and success.

It is certainly a busy and exciting time at school – just the way we like it!

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Curtis
Headteacher

Meet our Governors

Co-opted Governor: Mr Paul Garel-Jones

My name is Paul Garel-Jones, and I am a co-opted governor. In my role I sit on the Finance and Staffing Committee, and Chair the Learning and Progress Committee. I also focus on Y4 and English. In doing so I hope to bring my experience of business and industry to help make Ash Grange even better over the next few years.

Outside of school I try to keep active, cycling and occasional (touch) rugby, follow AFC Bournemouth (not many of us) having been born and brought up on the south coast, and try and keep my two children (14 and 15) entertained.

Finally, to add to Lynsey's quote. My favourite Nelson Mandela quote “It always seems impossible until it’s done!”.

Looking forward to getting to know the Ash Grange family.

Attendance

We would like to remind you that a Leave of Absence Form must be completed online or in the office for all medical and dental appointments. For any other circumstances, please complete the form at least two weeks before the requested date. Additionally, please provide evidence to support your request. Forms should be submitted in advance, not on the day of the appointment.

Where possible, we kindly ask that appointments be scheduled outside of school hours to minimize disruption to learning.

Please refer to our Attendance Guide for Parents on our website under 'Attendance 2025-26'. This is a termly reminder to ensure all parents/carers have the most up-to-date attendance information.

Attendance Information:

If you take your child out of school without the approval of the school, you will be liable to receive a penalty notice per parent/carer and the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/these children since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/ these children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/ these children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

All guidance explained here refers to the School’s Attendance Policy on our website, which was developed in response to UK Government Law and the statutory attendance guidance — Working together to improve school attendance—from August 2024.

May Attendance

Following a busy and enjoyable May, our children have continued to show fantastic commitment by coming into school each day ready to learn. As we move towards the summer term, we remain incredibly proud of their positive attitudes and resilience, and we’re pleased to share this month’s attendance results:

  • Reception H: 88.78% average attendance, 17 children with 100% attendance
  • Reception M: 95.36% average attendance, 19 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 1: 96.22% average attendance, 20 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 2: 94.11% average attendance, 18 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 3: 97.44% average attendance, 21 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 4: 94.78% average attendance, 17 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 5: 94.73% average attendance, 19 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 6: 91.16% average attendance, 16 children with 100% attendance

All children who achieved 100% attendance received a certificate. They were also invited to choose a special reward: either a free snack from the snack bar or an item from the prize box, such as a ruler, rubber, or small accessory, as a token of our appreciation.

A huge well done to everyone for their continued enthusiasm, determination, and positivity. We encourage pupils to keep up these fantastic habits and aim for even more great attendance. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Open Days

For families looking to join Ash Grange in September 2027, we are pleased to offer four Open Day events for parents and carers. These visits provide the opportunity to see the school in action, enjoy a pupil-led tour, and attend a presentation from the Headteacher.

To book a place, please complete the online booking form here.

Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to offer tours outside these scheduled dates.

Recycling at Ash Grange

We are collecting hard to recycle items to help save our planet!

At Ash Grange, we collect milk bottle lids, biscuit wrappers, cheese wrappers, used stamps, old coins and bras. The bras will be sent to girls and women in Africa.

If you have any of these items and want to recycle them, there is a collection point in the Eco Shop at the entrance of the school. You can leave these in the appropriate drawer in the Eco shop, and we will recycle them!

Additionally, you can bring clothing for recycling to the office any time!

Thank you for helping us make the world greener and support communities!

Textile Recycling

A reminder that the collection bank is available all year round. You can donate clothing (including branded uniform), pairs of shoes, accessories, soft toys, and sheets at any time. Items can be dropped at the office or, for larger amounts, you can arrange access to drive down and unload.

All donations are reused or recycled, helping reduce textile waste while supporting our school.

What can be donated:

  • Clothing (including branded uniform)
  • Pairs of shoes
  • Accessories (hats, scarves, gloves, handbags, belts, etc.)
  • sheets
  • Soft toys

Donations can be placed in any plastic bag.
