Message from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you know, we are a proactive school and always strive to work in partnership with you in every aspect of school life. Our school menus are created using the children’s own choices, and these are rotated regularly throughout the year. The latest menu was developed following discussions with the children and reflects their selected preferences.

The children have been fantastic in embracing new foods and many have surprised themselves with how much they have enjoyed the options available. However, we have received a number of comments from parents regarding limited choices that suit their child’s personal tastes. While we try our best, it is not possible to cater for endless individual variations.

For this reason, from Monday 9th March we would like to offer you the option of providing your child with an alternative packed lunch, as we already do for pupils in Years 3–6.

Each day, you will be able to choose either:

  • A free, government-funded healthy school meal, or
  • A packed lunch from home, which must follow our Healthy Lunchbox Policy.

Healthy Lunchbox Policy

Packed lunches must follow the guidance below:

  1. Water only – every child brings their water bottle to the hall daily.
  2. No sweets
  3. No chocolate bars
  4. No nuts
  5. Your child must be able to open every packet or container. Please decant items into pots they can manage and label containers where possible.
  6. Provide cutlery if required.
  7. A portion is defined as the size of a child’s palm

Lunchtime Options

A balanced packed lunch should include:

Please note:

  • If a lunchbox contains items that do not meet the policy, your child will not be permitted to eat them.
  • If this results in them having too little food, they will be given a school meal.
  • All waste food and packaging will be returned home so you can see what your child has eaten each day.

Thank you for your continued support as we promote healthy, balanced eating habits for all our children.

Spring/Summer Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving at school from 23rd March to 26th March, just after World Book Day! This is a fantastic chance for children and families to explore a wide range of books.

World Book Day Tokens Welcome!
Children can use the £1 World Book Day token they receive at school towards any book at our fair, making it a perfect opportunity to enjoy extra savings on brand-new stories.

You can visit the fair before school from 08:30 to 08:55 and after school from 15:00 to 15:45. Prices range from £2.99 to £10.99.

To make this event a success, we would greatly appreciate some help from parents to assist at the book fair after school. If you are available and willing to lend a hand, please contact the school office. Your support would mean a lot to us!

Attendance

We would like to remind you that a Leave of Absence Form must be completed online or in the office for all medical and dental appointments. For any other circumstances, please complete the form at least two weeks before the requested date. Additionally, please provide evidence to support your request. Forms should be submitted in advance, not on the day of the appointment.

Where possible, we kindly ask that appointments be scheduled outside of school hours to minimize disruption to learning.

Please refer to our Attendance Guide for Parents on our website under 'Attendance 2025-26'. This is a termly reminder to ensure all parents/carers have the most up-to-date attendance information.

Attendance Information:

If you take your child out of school without the approval of the school, you will be liable to receive a penalty notice per parent/carer and the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/these children since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/ these children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/ these children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

All guidance explained here refers to the School’s Attendance Policy on our website, which was developed in response to UK Government Law and the statutory attendance guidance — Working together to improve school attendance—from August 2024.

February Attendance

Despite February being a shorter month and still bringing its fair share of cold, wintry weather, our children have continued to demonstrate fantastic commitment by coming into school ready to learn each day. We’re incredibly proud of their ongoing dedication and are delighted to share this month’s attendance results:

  • Reception H: 94.83% average attendance, 18 children with 100% attendance
  • Reception M: 95.15% average attendance, 20 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 1: 95.71% average attendance, 21 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 2: 96.43% average attendance, 15 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 3: 91.31% average attendance, 20 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 4: 97.26% average attendance, 21 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 5: 96.08% average attendance, 23 children with 100% attendance
  • Year 6: 93.97% average attendance, 17 children with 100% attendance

To celebrate excellent attendance in February, all children who achieved 100% attendance will receive a certificate. They’ll also be invited to choose a special reward, either a free snack from the snack bar or a gift from the prize box, which includes items like a ruler, rubber, or small accessories as a token of recognition.

A huge well done to everyone for their continued enthusiasm, resilience, and positivity. February may be short, but our pupils have made it count! Let’s keep this brilliant momentum going as we move into March.
