Sports Clubs and Competitions

Children can sign up for a variety of after-school sports clubs to improve their fundamental skills. Our sports teams then compete against other schools in the Farnham and Ash District Sports Association competitions. To be selected for an elite team, children must be successful in open trials or perform at a particularly high level in PE lessons. Each term, there will be new opportunities to try out for our sports teams. Children at Ash Grange also take part in several inter-house sports events throughout the year. The highlight of the summer term is our annual Sports Day, a fun and active day that allows students to experience friendly competition both as individual and within a team.

Match Reports

Year 4-6 Girls Football Friendly vs. Walsh (Home). Monday 9th December 2024

Our girls' football team secured a fantastic 2-0 victory in their first ever competitive game together. SB opened the scoring for Ash Grange early in the first half with a composed right-footed finish. Ash Grange doubled their lead in the second half when Mia's long pass forward was diverted into the net by the opposition goalkeeper. The girls worked incredibly hard and never stopped running from the first minute to the last. SB was voted 'player of the match' by her peers for her excellent dribbling and shooting skills. Mr. Barnett chose Brooklyn as 'coaches' player of the match' for her brilliant defensive positioning and tackling skills. Well done, girls!

Monty was voted the Ash Grange 'player of the match' by his teammates for an excellent defensive performance. Mr. Barnett chose Joey to be 'coaches' player of the match' for his hard work and bravery, especially when making last-ditch sliding tackles! Overall, it was an excellent performance from Ash Grange in their first competitive game against another school. Well done boys!

Year 5+6 Interhouse Basketball and Bench-Ball Tournament. Tuesday 22nd October 2024

Year 5 and 6 took part in an interhouse basketball and bench-ball competition on Tuesday 22nd October 2024. This was a fantastic opportunity for our children to 'shine' and demonstrate all of the passing, receiving, dribbling, and shooting skills that they have learnt in PE lessons. The yellow and red teams finished in joint first place, winning 60 house points each. The blue team finished second, gaining 40 house points, and the green team finished in third place, winning 30 house points. Well done to the following children for being nominated as 'star player' by their teammates: Joey, Bella-Rose,

Henley, Nikita, Harlie, Peyton, Keira, Annabel, and Quiana. Thank you to all of the sports leaders who helped by leading warm-up activities for their respective teams.

District Rounders Tournament (Waverley Abbey School). Thursday 20th June 2024.

Ash Grange won 2 and lost 1 of their 3 group stage matches at the annual Farnham and Ash district rounders tournament at Waverley Abbey School. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to qualify for the semi-final stage of the tournament. Miss Mole and Mr. Barnett were thoroughly impressed by the positivity and excellent sportsmanship displayed by our pupils, in addition to excellent batting and fielding skills. Well done to all of the players involved.

Development Basketball Tournament (Home). Monday 26th February 2024.

On Monday 26th February, Ash Grange hosted a development basketball tournament involving 3 other schools: Holly Lodge, South Farnham and Potters Gate. In their first game, Ash Grange suffered a narrow 16-10 defeat to the eventual tournament winners, Holly Lodge. Bethany and Antony displayed some excellent passing and movement skills, which created space for Dominik and Atchudan to score. In round 2, Ash Grange lost 22-14 to a talented Potters Gate team, with William scoring the most points for the home team with some accurate shooting from distance. Ash Grange were victorious in their final match against South Farnham. Beau and Massimo combined brilliantly to lead the team to a 9-0 win, with Antony scoring a spectacular '3-pointer' to complete the performance. A huge 'well done' to all of the players involved!

Ash Grange vs. Walsh Junior School (Home). Year 5+6 Boys Football. Tuesday 6th February 2024

Ash Grange lost 3-1 at home to an impressive Walsh team in a boys football friendly. Walsh took an early lead from the penalty spot following a handball by Ash Grange in the box. Atchudan made a series of impressive saves to keep Ash Grange in the game, but couldn't prevent the visitors from scoring a second after half-time. Ash Grange made it 2-1 when Dominik's excellent cross was diverted into the Walsh goal by one of their own defenders. Hope was quickly dashed however, when Walsh added a third goal shortly after the re-start to make it 3-1. Overall it was a strong team performance from Ash Grange, who battled hard to stay in the game against a talented Walsh team. Players player of the match: Atchudan. Managers player of the match: William. Headteachers player of the match: Massimo.
