Attendance Information

Attendance

Be here everyday, all the way!

Attendance and Punctuality are both high priorities at Ash Grange. Good attendance is related to good progress and impacts directly on life choices. This year along with our ongoing attendance incentives we have our New Class Attendance Board.

The children are extremely excited about our racing car theme as are we! We monitor attendance weekly and for each class achieving over 97% attendance their class racing car moves one position around the track. For the class achieving the highest attendance in KS1 and KS2 they move an additional one space.

Well done to Year 2 who are the frontrunners in pole position closely followed by Year 1, Reception and Year 5. Do not worry there is still plenty of time for all to overtake and reach the checkered flag!

Please support your child by making sure they attended school everyday and “Stay On Track”.

Attendance every day is important to make the most of the teaching and learning opportunities that the school provides.

School starts at 8.45am, if your child is ill please inform the school by 9.10am, either by phone, in person or using our Absence Form.  Nursery children start at 09:00am, so please inform the office by 9:25am if your child is ill and won't be in school.

Punctuality is very important, it is a time to settle into the day, catch up with friends and start learning. Every minute counts in a school day.  When children arrive late, they feel unsettled and miss out on important learning.

Please ensure your child arrives on time each day.   If you are running late, please call to let us know.

If your school child arrives late and the school assembly has started, you will need to stay with them until the assembly finishes.

If your child attends Nursery and you arrive after 9.15am without a valid reason, they will not be allowed to enter. Once the session has begun, staff cannot leave areas to attend to your child, as it will leave other children unsupervised.

If your child has to leave school early for an important reason, please inform the class teacher and fill in an absence request form in advance and collect your child from the school office. No child can leave the school premises during school hours unless accompanied by a parent or an authorised adult.

The beginnings and end of terms are very important to enable a child to prepare for changes and be fully involved. Any absence must be applied for in writing (forms available from the school office) or online beforehand. It is then passed to the Headteacher for consideration and a response is given, through pupil post, within 48 hours. Leave will only be granted in exceptional circumstances, parents do not have an automatic right to absence. Where possible please make medical appointments outside of school hours, where this is not possible bring the appointment card or letter along to the office with the absence request form. The attendance policy details all practice and penalties. Please consult the school term dates before planning your family holidays.

Any parent taking their child out of school without authorisation may be subject to a local authority penalty fine. See the attendance policy for further details. Any difficulties with attendance should be discussed as soon as possible with the Headteacher or the Surrey Inclusion Officer.

We have attendance incentives to encourage 100% attendance. Each month children with 100% are presented with a coloured band. There are eleven different bands in total to collect.

The Government recommend that a minimum level of attendance is 96% and anything below is likely to impact on a child’s academic attainment.

Nursery Attendance

If your child is going to be late to their Nursery session please call the school to let us know and bring your child to the school office to be registered. Any child arriving after 9.15am or 12,15pm will not be allowed to attend their session unless we have authorised their lateness. If there are unexpected circumstances that will result in you being late to collect your child, please call the office as soon as possible so we can inform the class teacher. If an alternative family member/ adult is collecting your child they will need to provide the password that you have notified the office of as part of your induction.
