Parents, could you get support with payment for trips and outside clubs?

Pupil Premium funding

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am very pleased to let you know that the Governing Body has been reviewing how we support families who are entitled to Pupil Premium funding, and we are delighted to announce that this support is being extended.

Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?

A pupil qualifies for Pupil Premium funding if they meet one of the following criteria:

  1. They are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), or have been eligible at any time in the last six years.
  2. They are looked after by the local authority.
  3. They were previously looked after by the local authority or another state care system.

Please note: Universal Free School Meals for pupils in Reception to Year 2 do not automatically generate Pupil Premium funding. Families must also meet the FSM criteria below.

Free School Meal eligibility criteria

Parents/carers are eligible for FSM if they receive one of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit with a household income (after tax, excluding benefits) of less than £7,400 per year
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Support under the Immigration and Asylum Act

What support do Pupil Premium pupils currently receive?

Pupil Premium funding allows us to provide a rich range of additional opportunities, including:

  1. Additional 1:1 or small group learning with the Learning Assistant/Teacher to overcome any learning gaps.
  2. Attendance support to ensure each child is at school to make the most of the learning opportunities and achieve their full potential
  3. Enrichment activities (holiday clubs, LAMDA, TWA, swimming, Surrey Arts lessons, Rocksteady, etc.)
  4. Additional home-learning resources such as Chromebooks, workbooks, and reading books
  5. Additional emotional health and wellbeing support
  6. Additional support for parents/carers
  7. Help to access resources that reduce financial pressure on families

Expanded Support from September 2026

From September 2026, each eligible family will have access to up to £200 per school year to support trips and membership to clubs and groups (e.g., gym clubs, Brownies, football clubs).

This allowance will cover:

  1. All class trips: these will be paid directly from the £200 annual allowance. If any balance remains, it can be used toward optional trips such as Residential or Sporting trips.
  2. Membership of school or local clubs/activities: families may request payment of membership fees (up to the allowance). Receipts are required, and payments are made directly to the provider.

Support for the remainder of this school year

As we are halfway through the current academic year, each eligible child will receive a £100 allowance to use between now and the end of July.

This can be used for trips or club memberships from now onwards but cannot be used to reimburse previously paid trips or activities.

The full £200 allowance will then start on 1 September 2026.

If you are not currently receiving Free School Meals

Even if your child receives a universal free lunch (Reception–Year 2), applying for FSM may mean your child becomes eligible for Pupil Premium, unlocking a wide range of additional support.
