Year 5

Welcome to our Year 5 page where you can find out more about what is happening in our class.

Year 5 have PE on Monday and Friday. Earrings must not be worn on these days. Please send your child to school in their PE kit every Monday and Friday. 

On Wednesdays Year 5 have LAMDA.

  • Worry Form It can feel scary to have a worry and it helps to talk it through and work out how to manage this worry. You can talk to a trusted adult, sibling or friend at home or at school. You can call Childline too on 08001111. Do you have a worry that you need to share with an adult at school? if so complete this form or talk to an adult at school as soon as you can. If you fill in this form it will go to Mrs Curtis and she will come and talk to you about it the next day you are in school.
  • Someone is not safe If you or someone you know feels scared or frighted by someone else, we are here to help. You can talk to a trusted adult at home or at school. You can call the Police on 999 or Childline too on 08001111. If you fill in this form, it will go to Mrs Curtis and she will come and talk to you about it as soon as she can.

Half Term Project Details and Homework Ideas  

The Spring 1 half-term project is: Alchemy Island

Stargazers project homework is due: Friday 6th February 2026

Projects are welcome before this date and should be submitted on time. 

Below is a list of ideas for each project. Try one of these or something else project related.

  • Make a list of foods that change state when heated or cooled, such as eggs, water, butter and chocolate.
  • Find out if your family owns anything made of gold or another precious metal or gemstone. What can you find out about where it came from?
  • Find out about – and watch! – films that show portals to other fantasy worlds, such as ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland.
  • Use a periodic table to find out the atomic numbers and symbols for metals, such as lead, copper, silver, zinc, iron and platinum.
  • Use a magnet to test the magnetic properties of metals around the home and record your discoveries in a data table.
  • Combine art and science to make an astonishing and unique gemstone! Experiment with materials such as wax, resin, plaster and jelly!
  • Plan a journey using a map and record the co-ordinates of where you went!
