    Ash Road Bridge

    Bridge Beam Installation

    Dear Stakeholder

Ash Road Bridge – Bridge Beam Installation

We will be installing the new bridge beams over the Bank Holiday weekend of 4-6 May. Activities on site will be taking place in shifts throughout the weekend. There may be a brief lull during shift handovers, but work will be continuous.

    Shift times:

    • Friday 8am to 6pm (as normal)

    • Friday 6pm to Saturday 6am

    • Saturday 6am to 6pm

    • Saturday 6pm to Sunday 6am

    • Sunday 6am to 6pm

    • Sunday 6pm to Monday 6am

We’ll be using tower lights when it’s dark. Our aim is to avoid disturbing local properties but as the lights are driven by small generators, you may hear a low droning noise.

The new beams and all equipment will arrive on site ahead of the weekend. There are approximately 19 beams which are being delivered mostly in pairs. The beams are 29m in length and will need to be guided into the site, so please be aware that there may be a brief delay to local journeys while the vehicles are guided through the gate.

The beams will travel via Ash Church Road and through the closed section of Foreman Road to the site entrance.

We apologise for any disturbance or inconvenience caused by these activities.

    Trains

No trains will be operating between 2am Saturday and 4am Monday. We advise anyone travelling by train over the weekend to check the National Rail website first.

    Viewing

We have created a viewing area so people can watch bridge beams being installed and the start of the bridge deck being built. The platform will be open from 10am-12pm and 4pm-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. There is room for fifty people, and limited parking on site. If you are interested, please let us know via ashroadbridge@volkerfitzpatrick.co.uk.

Please note: sturdy footwear will be required.

Foreman Road Closure – construction phase 2

Further to previous published information, we will be moving the Foreman Road closure in May. This has been put back to after the installation of the bridge beams.

We will write nearer the time with further details.

  • Earth Week

    Fri 19 Apr 2024

    Dear Parents/Carers,
Next week will be our school's Eco Week! Children from nursery all the way up to Year 6 will have many opportunities to learn about how to care for our planet and why. During the week, each class will have an eco book to explore the topic and enjoy activities to share what they learnt about eco during our Celebration Assembly on the Friday.

There will be a mufti day on Friday 26th of April. The children will be allowed to wear everyday clothes (suitable for school) for a donation to Water Aid Charity, this can be made at the office or in Scopay.  This charity helps populations living in areas with no or little access to clean water.

Ash Grange is also taking part in the Rethink Waste program this year. The program invites all in Surrey to take part in eco activities at home and by doing so, you can collect points which will then be donated to the school to fundraise for our future eco projects. If you would like to take part, follow the QR code attached to this email. Thank you!

Our next clothes collection for Rags2Riches will be on the 11th of June. Your child will be given a collection bag closer to the date.

    Thank you,

    Miss Emma Postel

  • Spelling Changes

    Fri 19 Apr 2024

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been reviewing the impact of our spelling programme (Spelling Book) on progress over the last 2 years and seen that the children are making progress but not rapid enough so we have sought an alternative and found Spelling Shed.

There is a full programme of teaching and learning that we will use in lessons over the school week and then there is a homework side to consolidate the learning from the week.   The homework is a game-based tool,  where children practise their spellings in a fun, interactive way.  From today this is part of their weekly homework provision to be completed between Friday and the following Thursday alongside Mathletics, Reading  and Times Tables Rockstars.

Your child will need to complete the games (between 5 and 8 depending on age) set by their teacher each week but can continue to play beyond this to earn points for their avatar! They can select the level of games to meet their need - but they will earn more points for more challenging levels!

Your child will given their login information and they can access Spelling Shed online here: https://play.edshed.com/en-gb/login. The website can be accessed using a computer, phone or tablet. There is an optional app that can be purchased but this is not required. There is a parent guide linked.

At this point in the year Year 6 only, will have this as an optional extra (but highly beneficial), in addition to their existing spelling homework books.

Thank you for supporting your child's learning at home.

Year 4 Class Teacher / English and Computing Lead
