At Ash Grange we teach music through the four strands, as in the National Curriculum:
We aim for all pupils to have the chance to explore and learn how music is produced using the inter-related dimensions of music: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
We hope that our music curriculum will engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As their musical skills develop, we hope that they will become confident musicians allowing them to compose, perform to a range of audiences and to listen to a range of musical genres.
Through music teaching, children will develop their social skills, self-esteem, cultural understanding, vocabulary and oracy skills which will support their learning in other subjects across the school.
Children have the opportunity to sign up for brass (trumpet, trombone and French horn), wind (flute, clarinet and saxophone), drums and guitar with Surrey Arts. These lessons will take place within the school day and there is also the facility to loan instruments from Surrey Arts to enable children to practise their new skills at home.
