Year 6 Bikeability 'Try it out day'

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of our Year 6 enrichment programme, we are pleased to offer all pupils the opportunity to take part in cycle training tailored to their ability.

This term, all Year 6 children will attend a Bikeability “Try-it-out” day on Wednesday 17 September, delivered by Surrey County Council. During this short session, children will receive basic cycling tuition appropriate for their skills and will have the chance to ride one of Active Surrey’s pool bikes.

  • If your child has a bike and helmet, they are welcome to bring them in for the instructors to check over in advance of the Bikeability Level 2 course.

  • If your child does not have a bike, one will be provided.

  • All pupils should come to school in their PE kit and trainers on Wednesday.

  • If you or your child do not wish to take part, please reply to this email.

Following the Try-it-out day, children will be invited to either:

  • Learn to Ride training – for those still developing their cycling skills (18 & 19 September)

  • Bikeability Level 2 – for those ready to cycle on local roads with moderate traffic (week commencing 6 October)

Bikeability Level 2 equips children with the skills and confidence to ride independently and safely, focusing on four key areas: observation, communication, positioning, and priorities.

Additional details:

  • All training is free of charge.

  • Pool bikes are available for children who do not have access to their own.

  • Training is delivered by qualified instructors in a risk-assessed area near the school.

Look out for the email following the Try-it-out day asking you to book your child onto the appropriate course.

We look forward to supporting all Year 6 children in developing their cycling skills this term.

Best wishes
